Merlot

Element 1

Vision

Our winemaker, Landon Donley, is focused on making vibrant, fresh and impeccably balanced wines. Our Merlot comes from a slow-ripening vineyard site that produces fruit with rich, velvety tannins. Aging the wine primarily in larger French oak barrels emphasizes the mid-palate texture, varietal aromatics, and flavors.

Element 2

Vineyard

Quattro Theory Merlot is grown at the Antica Vineyard in Foss Valley, Atlas Peak AVA, at an elevation of 1,500 feet, benefiting from cool nights and daytime temperatures due to seasonal fog. Planted in 1996 to clone 181 on both 420A and 44-53M rootstocks, this late-ripening site allows for extended flavor development.

Element 3

Winemaking

We enhance natural aromatics and varietal character by chilling grapes to 40°F, sorting them optically, and using controlled fermentation to preserve their unique qualities. After blending with Bordeaux varieties for complexity, the wine ages for 15 months in 500L puncheons for a balanced fruit and oak profile.

Element 4

Experience

This cool climate Merlot is designed for food. It is balanced in all aspects with medium bodied red fruit, soft plum, wet earth, a hint of coffee bean, wild strawberry, black cherry, and green olive. The rich and broad palate leads to a long and juicy finish.
